Ashland County CDC HOP

Ashland County CDC HOP works through strong partnerships with local organizations, community leaders, and health advocates. Together, we focus on improving access to healthy foods, creating more opportunities for physical activity, and supporting the overall well-being of Ashland County residents.

The CDC HOP grant runs from October 2023 through September 2028.

What We Do

Food and Nutrition

We work with community partners to promote food service and nutrition guidelines. We also support programs that provide fruit and vegetable vouchers and produce prescriptions, making it easier for families to access fresh foods.

Safe and Accessible Physical Activity

We support community design changes, like adding sidewalks, trails, and safe spaces, that make it easier and safer for people to be physically active.

Farm to Early Care and Education (ECE)

We support Farm to ECE programs by linking local farmers with childcare centers, bringing fresh, local food to young children.

Local Support

The Ashland County Healthy Communities Coordinator designs, delivers, and evaluates strategies that make healthy living easier. This work focuses on increasing access to culturally responsive food and creating safe, active spaces.

The coordinator partners with local organizations to implement policies that connect walking, biking, and transit networks and improve nutrition standards. They also collaborate with Tribal leaders and community members to adapt the Harvest of the Moon program for Ojibwe communities, blending cultural traditions with health initiatives.
