Covering Wisconsin

Covering Wisconsin (CWI) provides free, expert help to anyone in Wisconsin to understand, access, use, and keep health insurance. CWI Health Insurance Navigators are available year-round and throughout the state to help with Medicaid, BadgerCare Plus, and HealthCare.gov enrollment or figuring out the best coverage option. They can also help with applications for charity care programs and appeals, as well as answer health insurance questions. CWI’s mission is to ensure that every Wisconsinite can access, understand, and use the most appropriate, affordable, and comprehensive health insurance available to them, so they can get the care they need.

CWI works with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance to improve access to health insurance and promote systems and policy change. CWI works with numerous professionals and agencies around Wisconsin to increase awareness about health insurance options and Navigator services. Professionals can work with CWI to receive training or access resource materials to share in their communities.

Restoring Trust in Health Coverage: The Impact of Covering Wisconsin Navigators

Getting, keeping, and using health insurance is a challenge for many Wisconsinites. Confusing and conflicting information makes it hard to know who to trust. Scams and out-of-state agents may sign people up for programs that don’t provide the care they need. Understanding the out-of-pocket costs and finding in-network providers are additional barriers. Navigating these systems can be time-consuming, and by the time someone receives an expensive bill or learns their provider is out of network, they may feel discouraged and delay or forego needed care. 

Covering Wisconsin’s Targeted Outreach Project

In collaboration with DHS, Covering Wisconsin (CWI) planned an extensive targeted outreach campaign with strict data sharing, privacy, and security agreements.

Supporting health care navigation: Covering Wisconsin recognized, awarded grant

Covering Wisconsin received a Service to the Citizen Award, given to state and federal government agencies to honor exemplary public service. They were recognized for developing and implementing a WebChat digital outreach and enrollment tool.
