Overview
Nutrition for Strong Bodies is a nutrition education curriculum from the University of Wisconsin–Madison Division of Extension. Originally developed to pair with the evidence-based StrongBodies strength training program, this versatile curriculum can seamlessly integrate into existing community programs or run as an independent series.
The eight lessons focus on how nutrition needs change as we age, covering essential topics such as protein, hydration, and bone health. Each lesson is designed to run for approximately 20 minutes.
While delivering all lessons in the full curriculum – either on its own or alongside other programs – is most effective for behavior change, individual lessons can also be taught as standalone sessions to fit your audience’s needs

What’s in the Curriculum
Leader guide including a full lesson plan for each of the eight lessons, with objectives, materials list, discussion questions, and the words to say.
Participant handouts: a take-home page for every lesson, ready to print.
SMART goal worksheet: the goal-setting tool participants use to close each lesson.
Who It’s For
The curriculum is written for staff and volunteers at agencies providing services with aging adults, no nutrition credential required. That includes:

Aging and disability resource centers, county aging units, and nutrition programs

Senior meal site and congregate dining coordinators

StrongBodies leaders adding nutrition content to their classes

How the Lessons Work
Every lesson follows the same four-part structure, so leaders can learn the format once and easily teach any lesson in the series.
Anchor
An opening question that connects the topic to what the group already does.
Add
The nutrition content, scripted so any leader can deliver it accurately.
Apply
A discussion or short activity that puts the idea to work.
Away
A SMART goal each participant sets before leaving.
Training
Completing a training is how you get the curriculum. The session covers how nutrition needs change with age, plus a walk-through of the lesson framework so you leave ready to teach.
