StrongBodies Leader Training
Join the movement to improve health and well-being in your community by becoming a StrongBodies leader. Empower others to stay active, healthy, and strong through this evidence-based strength training program designed for middle-aged and older adults.
Overview
The StrongBodies Leader Training:
Leaders will receive instruction on how to teach the program’s exercises and lead participants safely. The training covers screening, safety, leadership, scheduling, and space needs. Program leaders are required to initiate at least one community program after completing the workshop.
Who Should Attend?
Professionals and community leaders in public health, nutrition, exercise, or wellness are encouraged to attend. Participants should be in good physical health and able to collaborate with local agencies to implement StrongBodies in their community.
Experience and Credentials:
Ideal leaders have experience providing exercise instruction and a background in health or fitness, including certifications from recognized organizations such as NSCA, ACSM, ACE, or similar.

Eligibility & Space
Eligibility Requirements for Leaders
- Must be an employee/staff/volunteer with UW-Madison, Division of Extension, or the local area aging unit (ADRC).
- Nonprofits partnering with Extension or the local aging unit are also eligible.
- Must sign a scope of use agreement regarding the fidelity and nonprofit use of the program.
- Must be actively strength training and committed to leading a program in your community.
- CPR certified
Space & Equipment
Sites should have a room of at least 200-400 square feet with sturdy, armless chairs, proper lighting, and secure storage for equipment. The facility should be safe and accessible for older adults.

Registration Fees (StrongBodies)
Extension and Aging Unit staff/volunteers: $350
Non-Extension/Aging Units: $500 (includes annual licensing fee)

What You’ll Need to Bring
- Towel or exercise mat
- Comfortable exercise clothing and close-toed shoes
- Light dumbbells (3-5 lbs)
- Adjustable ankle weight (5-10 lbs)
- CPR certification
