Kemāmaceqtaq: We’re All Moving: Food and Nutrition

Food and Nutrition
Kemāmaceqtaq: We’re All Moving works with community partners to make healthy food choices easier and improve access to affordable fruits and vegetables through innovative programs.
Nutrition Policies
The Kemāmaceqtaq team works with community partners and leaders to create nutrition policies based on the Food Service Guidelines for Federal Facilities. These policies highlight locally grown, Indigenous foods and reflect Menominee language and culture.
Seven community sites have approved nutrition standards, including:
4-H Clubs in Neopit and Keshena
Menominee County Courthouse and Public Facilities Building
Menominee Indian School District
Menominee Early Childhood Services – Head Start/Early Head Start
College of Menominee Nation Department of Continuing Education
Kaehkenawapahtaeq Dual Language Charter School
Ongoing Support
We continue to help these sites put their policies into action by providing:
Healthy recipes and signage
Lunch-and-learn sessions
Resources like composters and reusable dish bags

The team is also working with new partners to develop and adopt nutrition standards.
Produce Prescription Programs
The Kemāmaceqtaq team is working with local partners, including the College of Menominee Nation, Menominee Tribal Clinic, and the Menominee Department of Agriculture & Food Systems, to launch a produce prescription program. This program connects community members with fresh fruits and vegetables to support healthy living.
We also help increase the use of fruit and vegetable vouchers, such as WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers. By coordinating with local and state partners and farmers, we make it easier for families and seniors to access and redeem these benefits.
Success Stories
Building and sustaining momentum in local government for healthy eating and active living environments
With an orientation to holism and interweaving Menominee language and culture, project collaborators at Menominee County government are taking steps to increase traditional and nutritious food offerings and opportunities for movement and engagement with nature.
